Published August 7, 1996
Huizenga Holdings plans to hire Fort Lauderdale-based Centex-Rooney Construction Co. and IN-based Huber, Hunt & Nichols to build the new $212M Broward County arena, according to the MIAMI HERALD. Huber, Hunt & Nichols built the Montreal Forum and America West Arena. Meanwhile, a "rough sketch" is beginning to emerge, with more detailed plans scheduled for delivery to the Broward County Commission August 27. The arena is expected to hold 19,452 seats for hockey, 20,494 for basketball and 18,594 for football. Construction is set to begin November 15 and be completed by August '98 (Marilyn Marks, MIAMI HERALD, 8/6).
