REDSKINS WIN COURT BATTLE OVER INSURANCE PREMIUMS

CT-based Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. had sued Pro-
Football Inc., Redskins Owner Jack Kent Cooke's team parent
company, for $5.35M in a dispute over workers' compensation
premiums, according to the WASHINGTON POST. Hartford argued the
team should have been paying DC's higher workers' comp premium
rates from '88 to '91, because in '91, the DC Court of Appeals
ruled that Redskins players were entitled to DC workers' comp
benefits regardless of where they were injured. But in a
judgment issued Wednesday, a federal judge ruled Hartford was
bound by its contract and could not retroactively reclassify
Redskin players as DC employees, and therefore the team doesn't
have to pay higher premiums for those years (WASHINGTON POST,
8/25).
