NAMES IN THE NEWS

     The Black Sports Agents Association (BSAA) will hold its
summer meeting in Oakland on Saturday, September 7.  Presiding
over the meeting will be REV. JESSE JACKSON, one of the founder
members of the BSAA (BSAA)....Dolphins Coach JIMMY JOHNSON is
profiled in MEN'S JOURNAL.  Michael Irvin, on his college days at
Miami with Johnson: "The only heart-to-heart you ever had with
Jimmy is when he's pissed off" (MEN'S JOURNAL, 9/96 issue)....The
Suns' WAYMAN TISDALE will be playing sets with his jazz band from
his new album, "Wayman Tisdale: In the Zone," at noon today in
The Virgin Megastore in Times Square (N.Y. POST, 8/23).... GRANT
HILL is donating $50,000 to Covenant House in New Orleans, and
another $50,000 to the Covenant House in Baltimore.  The
contributions will support the agency's efforts to homeless and
at-risk youths ages 16-21.  Hill sponsor, FILA, matched his
$50,000 donations with $25,000 contributions (USA TODAY,
8/23)....Former Eagles star and CBS analyst IRV CROSS is profiled
in SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.  Cross, who is now AD at Idaho State, said
in his first season on "The NFL Today," CBS wanted him to dress
for the show in a leisure suit with his shirt open halfway down
his chest and a gold chain around his neck.  Cross: "I was
supposed to be the sex symbol" (SI, 8/26 issue).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
