JOHNSON-MANIA: JIMMY CRACKS CORN AND SPONSORS DO CARE

Fruit of the Loom's Pro Player sports apparel division is
expected to announce today that Dolphins Head Coach Jimmy Johnson
has signed a multi-year endorsement contract, believed to be
worth more than $1M, according to USA TODAY. Johnson's lawyer,
Nick Christin, said more deals are on the way as negotiations
continue with a soft-drink company and a shoemaker. But,
Christin says, Johnson does not "want to do any ads during the
season." Sports marketers say Johnson rates as the "hottest
coach-as-commercial-property" since former Bears Coach Mike
Ditka. Execs at Pro Player say they signed him because of the
expected media attention Johnson will receive in his return to
coaching in Miami. The first Pro Player ads debut September 2 on
ABC's "Monday Night Football" (Bruce Horovitz, USA TODAY, 8/22).
