STADIUM NOTES

     Former Tampa Mayor William Poe has filed a lawsuit to have
the half-cent sales tax designed to help fund a new Bucs stadium
taken off Hillsborough County's September 3 ballot (TAMPA
TRIBUNE, 8/20)...The Ice Palace may host fight involving IBF
Super-Middleweight Champion Roy Jones within a year on national
TV (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 8/20)....The HOUSTON CHRONICLE compares the
stadium proposal made by Harris County Judge Robert Eckels to
Astros Owner Drayton McLane with other recent ballpark deals.
The CHRONICLE's John Williams reports, "According to financial
analysts who study stadium construction around the country,
Eckels' proposal tends to protect taxpayers more than it helps
the ball club" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/18)....Joe Robbie Stadium
Owner Wayne Huizenga is eyeing a retail and entertainment mall to
"supplant" SportsTown, the "popular attraction" of interactive
games, food stands, and bars located on the south perimeter of
the facility.  JRS has undergone a $10M renovation for football
(Ft. Lauderdale SUN SENTINEL, 8/18).
