ESPN INCREASES ROLE IN INDIA AND JAPAN

     ESPN announced yesterday that ESPN India is now in more than
3.5 million households and is "rapidly growing" since becoming
encrypted in May.  In another announcement, Japan Sports Channel
has been renamed from Sports-i to Sports-i ESPN.  The channel
will now offer 20 hours of sports programming live-to-air
beginning in October and 24 hours in January '97.  ESPN provides
a majority of the programing to the network, in which it has a
vested interest.  Sports-i ESPN will feature the international
edition of "SportsCenter," along with soccer, NHL hockey, college
basketball and IndyCar racing.  It will also telecast local
"premier" events.  ESPN now reaches more than 175 million TV
households in more than 160 countries (ESPN).
