David Hill, the new President & CEO of Fox TV, will continue
as President of Fox Sports, "however it would seem likely that at
some point a successor will be named," according to Joe Flint of
VARIETY. Ed Goren, Fox Sports Exec Producer, "could see his role
expanded," and the News Corp./Liberty alliance is still searching
for a head. But Flint also notes Hill is likely to continue to
exert his influence on the sports division (VARIETY, 7/29 issue).
Hill's expanded role gives Fox TV Chair Chase Carey "more time to
focus on long-term strategic planning" as some say Carey has been
"stretched thin during the past two years" while Fox reorganized.
Hill is "well regarded" by network staffers, and many are
optimistic his expanded role will "boost flagging morale and help
day-to-day activities run more smoothly" (BROADCASTING & CABLE,
7/29 issue).
CLOSE ON GOLF CHANNEL DEAL: Fox Sports is reportedly in the
final stages of talks to buy 33% of The Golf Channel. A deal
could be reached as early as today. The deal would "give the
growing Fox Sports empire significant inroads to golf
programming" (THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 7/30).
