L.A. TIMES REPORTS LASORDA TO RESIGN FROM MANAGING TODAY

Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda is expected to announce his
retirement today, according to Allan Malamud of the L.A. TIMES.
Lasorda, who suffered a heart attack in June, reportedly made the
decision to retire for health concerns. It "is anticipated that
he will remain in an administrative role with the organization
that has employed him for 47 years." Interim Manager Bill
Russell will stay on through the end of the season. While many
expected Lasorda to be back in uniform on Tuesday, "he had
privately expressed concerns about the stress that might be
caused by a grueling work schedule that includes three more road
trips this season" (L.A TIMES, 7/29).
