OLYMPIC NEWS & NOTES: IS BARKLEY READY FOR ANGOLA?

     Dream Teamer Charles Barkley, asked if there was any team in
Atlanta he feared:  "The women's national team"  (NEWSDAY, 7/2).
ESPN's Charley Steiner:  "Watching the Dream Team prep for the
Olympics is like watching the 82nd Airborne Division in war games
prepping for Grenada" ("SportsCenter," 7/1)....Darcy Antonellis
will serve as VP/Olympic Operations for CBS TV coverage of the
'98 Nagano Winter Games.  Antonellis will oversee all technical
operations (CBS)....Tickets for Olympic soccer matches at RFK
Stadium in DC are "selling well," and officials estimate DC sales
will "exceed projections" of 180-200,000.  In other cities,
"sales are mixed," with Miami "comparatively sluggish"
(WASHINGTON POST, 7/2)....Tom Cunningham, Senior Economist at the
Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta, expects 10-20,000 jobs added to
the June employment report as a result of the Games (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 7/2)....AD AGE's Bob Garfield reviews one of
McDonald's new Olympic themed spots and gives it ad four stars
(AD AGE, 7/1 issue).... Reebok's ad featuring U.S. soccer player
Michelle Akers debuts this week.  The spot runs on NBC, MTV, BET,
USA and Nickelodeon. The NBC portion of the media buy is
estimated at $20M (AD AGE ONLINE, 7/2)...."Entertainment Tonight"
reports that Travis Tritt will be among the headliners of AT&T's
Olympic Village entertainment production ("ET," 7/1).
