ALL ABOARD IN SEATTLE, NEXT STOP DENVER

     The Seattle-King County Sports and Event Council is taking a
squad of local officials on a tour of Coors Field this week,
after the stadium board favored that ballpark in a March '96 tour
of MLB stadiums.  Council President Michael Campbell said the
group is sponsoring the trip to keep the $320M Mariners project
on track to open in April '99 (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 7/12).
Fearing the Kingdome has been placed "in peril" by talk of a new
facilities for both the Mariners and Seahawks, columnist Blaine
Newnham calls for King County to develop a strategy for baseball,
football and the dome.  Newnham also urges agreement between the
county and the Mariners on a cap of the amount of taxpayer money
which can be used to build a new ballpark (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/14).
