BASEBALL, PART II: LABORING TOWARD AN AGREEMENT

As talks between players and owners continued Friday,
ownership sources believe the sides "are the closest they ever
have been to an agreement," according to Mark Maske of the
WASHINGTON POST. One management source, who said they are down
to "the nitty-gritty of bargaining," said a deal could get done
"in the next couple of weeks." Both sides reportedly have agreed
to a 35% luxury tax, while they attempt to find the threshold at
which the six top payroll clubs would be taxed (WASHINGTON POST,
6/22).
