Rangers Player Rep Will Clark "took exception" to a release
issued by the Orioles that "essentially blamed the Ranges for the
mess in rescheduling Monday's game that was rained-out,"
according to the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Instead of playing a
doubleheader on Tuesday as directed by league rules, Orioles
Owner Peter Angelos "obtained a waiver to try to reschedule the
game Thursday night." The O's statement read: "Unfortunately
due to scheduling problems pertaining to the Rangers the clubs
were unable to accomplish this goal. ... [Orioles players]
demonstrated a level of cooperation and strong commitment to
their fans by offering to replay Monday's game on Thursday."
Clark said the Rangers offered to play a day game on Thursday,
but Angelos "was very adamant" about playing at night. The
league mandated a doubleheader be played Wednesday, but since the
second game was rained out yesterday, it will be made up at
12:35pm today. Rangers manager Johnny Oates: "Their
consideration is to get another gate. And it should be, but
don't try to camouflage it." Clark said if Angelos had followed
league rules, they would have been able to play a doubleheader
Tuesday, but "since he's hard-headed, now we're in a predicament"
(DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/20).
