HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL WITH BREWER IMBROGLIO

Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist "left the door open for
additional public financing" for a new Brewers ballpark, but he
cautioned that "it ought to be the last time we visit this
proposal and (make sure) that all costs are allocated," according
to this morning's MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. WI state official
James Klauser echoed Norquist's optimism and said accepting the
city's offer of $50M and putting the proposed stadium downtown
"makes a lot of sense." Brewers President Laurel Prieb, however,
reiterated Owner Bud Selig's stance that "there is no viable
downtown site" and that "every poll" shows that fans prefer the
County Stadium site (Nichols & Walters, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL
SENTINEL, 6/18). SELF-INFLICTED WOUND: In Dallas, Ken Daley
writes, "Ironically, it is the revenue-sharing plan championed by
Selig and approved by owners in March that might provide the
impetus for fellow owners to push Selig out of his home town"
(DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/18).
