KOSAR ASSEMBLING OWNERSHIP GROUP TO PURCHASE NEW BROWNS

     Bernie Kosar has met with NFL officials "at least" five
times in the last two months to discuss acquiring the rights to
the new Browns, according to the Akron BEACON JOURNAL.  Ed Meyer
writes Kosar says he has the financial backing to raise the
expected $300M it would cost to buy and start up the franchise --
 promised to Cleveland by the NFL for the '99 season.  Kosar:  "A
lot of good people here saw the Browns play for a long time in
this city.  They deserve to see things done the right way the
next time we have a team here.  I think I can get it right."  NFL
Dir of Communications Greg Aiello confirms the league is
"seriously interested" in the Kosar group (Akron BEACON JOURNAL,
6/15).
