NBC FIELDING RYDER CUP QUERIES FOR '99 AND 2001

Companies interested in becoming part of NBC's Ryder Cup
coverage for '99 (Boston) and 2001 (Coldfield, England) have
begun pursuing ad packages, according to Brockinton & Reynolds in
the current INSIDE MEDIA. Inventory on next year's competition,
to be held in Valderamma, Spain, has already been claimed by
Coopers & Lybrand, GM, Pepsi, Ping and the U.S. Postal Service.
NBC Sports Senior VP/ Programming Jonathan Miller confirms the
interest in '99 and 2001, but notes that incumbents will have
"first crack" at the packages -- which will be distributed within
the next couple of months. Pricing for NBC's "two-Cup" '95-97
packages has been estimated at upward of $2.5M apiece. Miller
would neither confirm nor deny that the cost of '99-2001 packages
would be increased and possibly expanded to include additional
advertisers. NBC also has the rights to the 2003 and 2005 events
(INSIDE MEDIA ONLINE, 6/12).
