FRANCHISE NOTES

In New York, Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner said he is
"dissatisfied" with the team's overall attendance. The team
ranks eighth in the AL with an average of 21,175. Steinbrenner:
"You can't blame the ballclub we've put together. You can't blame
the excitement we've created. ... It's a little embarrassing for
New York" (NEWSDAY, 5/23) ...In Chicago, Fred Mitchell writes the
lack of fans and media at White Sox games can be attributed in
part to the Bulls. The Sox drew 7,000 fewer fans than the Bulls
Tuesday night (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/23)....In Hartford, Mike Swift
writes while many of Hartford's business leaders feel having an
NHL team "is nice," it is not a necessary part of the city's
future (HARTFORD COURANT, 5/23).
