DELUCA LEAVES CBS FOR NEW POST AT ESPN

Len DeLuca, who had been CBS Sports' VP of Programming since
November '94, has joined ESPN in the newly created position of
Senior VP/Programming Development, according to an announcement
Tuesday by ESPN President & CEO Steve Bornstein. DeLuca will be
based in New York, but will also work out of the network's
Bristol, CT, offices. According to ESPN, DeLuca "will work
closely with ESPN's entire programming department on all aspects
of ESPN and ESPN2 programming" (ESPN). In Boston, Jim Baker
refers to DeLuca as CBS' "college sports guru" and reports that
Bornstein approached DeLuca with the opportunity "after the
Masters." CBS Sports President David Kenin: "Lenny's a terrific
guy, but ESPN approached and he's moving for a major
opportunity." Baker notes Rob Correa is now CBS Sports' sole VP
for programming (BOSTON HERALD, 5/21). USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke
writes DeLuca's move was the "buzz of the TV sports world
Tuesday." He credits DeLuca with playing a "prominent role in
bringing CBS back" after losing the NFL and MLB, through college
football acquisitions and renewal of the NCAA basketball deal
(USA TODAY, 5/22).
