Facilities Venues

CAROLINAS STADIUM IS THE CAT'S MEOW

The new Carolinas Stadium has been drawing rave reviews from
NFL officials who have toured the site, especially 49ers
President Carmen Policy, who called the facility "the impossible
dream" and said, by comparison, the 49ers play "in a bombed out
zone." Charles Chandler of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER writes a
number of NFL owners and officials examined the site while in
town for the league meetings. Policy: "Seeing this and leaving
is going to be like going out on a date with Michelle Pfeiffer
and then expecting to have dinner with Minnie Pearl" (CHARLOTTE
OBSERVER, 5/22).
PERFECTION HAS ITS PRICE: The Panthers have yet to sell
6,700 PSLs -- 1,000 in the lower deck end zone for $2,700 each
and the rest in upper deck corners for $3,000 each. Though the
team has sold all other seats for the upcoming season, the NFL's
blackout policy requires a sellout of all seats 72 hours before
kickoff. If the Panthers cannot sell all the PSLs before their
September 1 game opener, they have two options: sell the
remaining PSLs on a single game basis for this season only, or
ask NationsBank and Wachovia to fulfill their '93 commitment and
purchase the remaining tickets (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/22).
