Arizona Sports and Entertainment Group, a partnership of
Valley businessmen with financial backing from the Ak-Chin Indian
Community, has negotiated an agreement with Phoenix Roadrunners
Owner Lyle Abraham to assume management of the IHL team, with an
option to purchase the franchise over the next two years. AZSEG
has obtained a letter of intent from the AZ Veterans' Coliseum &
Exposition Center Board to lease the AZ Veterans' Memorial
Coliseum for a minimum of five years. The Coliseum will be
managed by former RFK Stadium Exec Dir Bob Sigholtz. The
Roadrunners will continue to be managed by Adam Keller, who will
now serve as President & GM (Roadrunners).
CAJUN SPICE ON ICE? IHL Commissioner Bob Ufer met last week
with local New Orleans officials to discuss the prospect of
bringing an IHL franchise to New Orleans. Over the last several
months, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation (GNOSF) has
been working with the LA Stadium & Exposition Authority and
Spectator Management Group on that prospect. Ufer: "We are
seriously considering the New Orleans market. With the
construction of a state of the art building and the growth of
hockey in the south, we think New Orleans would be a perfect fit
for us" (GNOSF).
