NO SHIRT, NO SERVICE: POSTAL SQUABBLE COULD SEE SETTLEMENT

"Barring a last-minute hitch," the dispute between Olympic
officials and the U.S. Postal Service over USPS issued t-shirts
designed from Olympic stamps will end in a settlement today,
according to Henry Unger of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. The
squabble, which has seen ACOG accusing the USPS of "parasite
marketing" and the Postal Service calling Games officials
"paranoid," may avoid a legal battle if the USPS grants a license
for the stamp artwork to Olympic officials, who would in turn
give it to a Games licensee. Though the total royalty amount
depends on the number of shirts sold, ACOG and the USOC stand to
gain the most from royalties with the Postal Service getting a
smaller cut. Under the proposed agreement, DT&S Enterprises, to
which the USPS had licensed the stamp design, would become a sub-
licensee for Hanes, which is an official Olympic sponsor (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 5/14).
