TAKING NAMING RIGHTS TO A NEW LEVEL
Published May 13, 1996
Sunoco's sponsorship of the Eagles preseason training facility is reportedly the first of its kind in the NFL, according to Michael Sokolove of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. The Sunoco logo will be stenciled onto all three fields at Lehigh Univ., and the facility will be renamed Sunoco Field. Sunoco is being called the "title partner" of training camp. Eagles Dir of Corporate Sales Scott O'Neil: "We never use the word sponsors. We use partner or corporate partner." O'Neil would not say how much Sunoco paid, and NFL sources said they knew of no other such deal in the league. During the summer, Sunoco will also run a Eagles-related sweepstakes promo with prizes that includes a trip to Super Bowl XXXI (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5/11).
