     MONICA SELES has filed a $16M damages claim for loss of
earnings against Deutscher Tennisbund (DTB) Rothenbaum Turnier
GmbH, the commercial organizer of the Hamburg Citizens Cup
tournament at which she was stabbed three years ago (IMG)....ESPN
President & CEO STEVE BORNSTEIN will receive the '96 Vanguard
Award for Programming May 1 in L.A. at the NCTA Convention.  The
Vanguards, the cable industry's highest honor, are presented
annually to those who excel in both business and in personal
commitment to their colleagues (ESPN)....Blazers center CHRIS
DUDLEY was named winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship
Award, presented annually by the Professional Basketball Writers
Association to an NBA player, coach or trainer in recognition of
outstanding community service and charity work (NBA)....Former
Olympic decathlete RAFER JOHNSON will receive the Lifetime
Achievement Award at the 11th annual Cedars-Sinai Sports
Spectacular June 23 in L.A. (Sports Spectacular)....T-Wolves
guard ISAIAH RIDER has settled a lawsuit filed by a woman he is
convicted of assaulting in March '94 (BOSTON HERALD,
4/29)....Cowboys RB EMMITT SMITH will graduate Saturday from the
Univ. of Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public
Relations (USA TODAY, 4/30)....UMass star MARCUS CAMBY and Philly
high school sensation KOBE BRYANT will make themselves eligible
for the NBA draft.  Camby has not yet signed with an agent, so he
can keep his "options open" on a possible return to Amherst
("SportsCenter," ESPN, 4/29).
