BREWERS DENY DEFERRALS ARE RELATED TO STADIUM FINANCING

The Brewers have asked several players who make over $1M to
defer portions of their salary until after the season, but team
officials deny the appeal involves financing for a new stadium.
Drew Olson of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL reports Brewers
President Bud Selig insists the estimated $1.5M in deferrals was
neither an indication the team is having trouble meeting its
payroll nor a ploy to finance a new stadium. The deferrals do,
however, come on the heels of accusations the Brewers are having
difficulty obtaining the promised $90M in financing to help pay
for a new $250M ballpark. Tom Gausden, Brewers VP of
Administration: "It's not a novel concept. It's nothing
different than what goes on with other sports franchises"
(MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL, 4/29).
