The SLOC Board of Trustees authorized the committee to
negotiate with International Sports Broadcasting to serve as the
Olympic Broadcast Organization for the 2002 Winter Games. The
group will be responsible "for providing the unbiased
international radio and television signal ... and for providing
an integrated and comprehensive array of facilities and services
for various broadcast rights-holders worldwide." ISB, which was
formed to bid for the 2002 rights, has Manolo Romero as Managing
Dir. Currently serving in the same position for Atlanta Olympic
Broadcasting, Romero is a veteran of numerous Olympics and
international events. SLOC and ISB will now negotiate terms of
the deal, with the contract within the budget projections of
$60M. ISB plans to begin its work in Fall '96 and open an office
in Salt Lake in '97. ISB will handle contacts with sub-
contractors and hold regular meetings with worldwide rights
holders. SLOC Chair Frank Joklik: "The proposal from ISB
clearly represents the best experience and knowledge of all
finalists in the selection process. This is not a time for
experimentation or for training a newcomer to world-wide sports
broadcasting" (SLOC).
