BASEBALL NEWS: TURNER'S HOME OF THE BRAVE

     Although Braves Owner Ted Turner "can't wait" until Monday
when the World Series banner is raised at Fulton-County Stadium,
the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION's I.J. Rosenberg asks, "Is Atlanta
excited?"  Around 7,000 seats remain for the opener, with the
early afternoon start time one reason. Turner, who visited spring
training for the first time Tuesday, on rumors of a sale before
the Time Warner merger: "I haven't heard that.  Shoot, if Time
Warner ever decided to sell the team I would be first in line to
buy it.  I want to die with the Braves" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION,
3/27).
     CHICAGO OFF-THE-FIELD: The CHICAGO SUN-TIMES profiles the
Cubs and White Sox.  The Cubs have sold about 1.4 million
tickets, and the White Sox 1.1 million.  The Cubs hope to sell
around 2.2 million, up from 1.9 million in '95, while the White
Sox will shoot for 2 million, up from 1.6 million of '95.  The
White Sox will offer 55 promotional dates, the Cubs 42 (Toni
Ginnetti, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/27).
