LEAGUE NOTES

A U.S. District Court judge in New Orleans ordered a local
bar, Mike's Grill, pay fines of $20,000 and attorney's fees of
$7,100 to the NFL for showing blacked-out Saints games. During
the past two years, the league has filed 23 lawsuits against more
than 200 bars in the U.S. and Canada, with negotiated settlements
with approximately 100 other establishments (NFL)....Final orders
handed down by Australian Federal Court Justice James Burchett
has banned Rupert Murdoch's planned SuperLeague rugby competition
until 2000. The ruling, which forbids News Corp. from
organizing, promoting or televising any rugby not authorized by
the Australian Rugby League, carried on rival Kerry Packer's
network, leaves Murdoch's pay-station Foxtel with "no major
sports drawing card" (VARIETY, 3/18-24 issue).
