BASEBALL TONIGHT IS BACK: SEASON PREMIERE THIS EVENING
ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" makes it season premiere tonight with the same cast as last season, except for former MLB second baseman Harold Reynolds replacing Roy Smalley as an analyst. ESPN also announced that it has signed Andy Van Slyke as a game analyst for its alternate Wednesday night games. Van Slyke had been rumored to be a candidate for a Fox position (Baltimore SUN, 3/21)....Fox is expected to announce that it will add Ken Singleton and Jeff Torborg as analysts to its baseball broadcast team (USA TODAY, 3/21).

ESPNet's SportsZone is said to be having trouble getting users "to pony up the money for sports data that they can get elsewhere" (CRAIN'S NEW YORK, 3/18)....Fox will broadcast three NFL preseason matchups in August: 49ers at Chargers on August 10; Broncos at Cowboys on August 17; and Packers at Colts on August 24 (Fox)....Raybin Communications has been named a media partner for Pinnacle's MLB All-Star FanFest. Many of FanFest's attractions will be featured on Raybin's "Sports Collectors Show" (MLB Properties)....CBS Radio Networks will air a 90-minute "Inside Pitch" show before each of their Sunday night baseball broadcasts. The show, hosted by Jim Hunter, will feature interviews and commentary in a call-in format (CBS Radio)....This weekend's "Inside Stuff" will go behind the scenes of David Robinson's chat session on NBA.com (NBA)....Oilers play-by-play man Russ Small will add anchor at Houston's KPRC-TV to his duties as Sports Dir at KTRH-AM (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/21).
