"STEAMERS" JOINS THE FRAY IN BALTIMORE NAME GAME

Baltimore's NFL team has come up with two new possible names
for the franchise, the "Railers" and "Steamers," according to Jon
Morgan of the Baltimore SUN. Those names join "Bombers,"
"Marauders" and "Ravens" in the effort to find a name for the
team. All the names "hark back to the city's role as the
birthplace of American railroading," as the team solicited ideas
from the B&O Museum. The five names and logos were tested
before focus groups in Baltimore in recent weeks. Team Owner Art
Modell confirmed the five name choices, but said it's too early
to call them the final five. There has been discussions of
"Mustangs," possibly in conjunction with a sponsorship with Ford
Motor Co. that could include naming rights to a new stadium.
Although, it is not known if the league "would favor the
commercialization of a team name" (Baltimore SUN, 3/9).
