WEDNESDAY WEB SITES OF THE WEEK

Yesterday, Rainbow Programming Holdings Inc. said that its
sports division -- SportsChannel Regional Network, NewSport,
PRIME and Prism -- will debut on the Web March 12. Each site
will be available directly or through Rainbow's corporate site:
http://www.Rainbow-networks.com. In a quick check of other
sports media sites, Home Team Sports and NESN are the most active
among RSNs. 1) HTS's "Locker Room" (http://www.htssports.com)
has areas for the Capitals, Bullets, college sports, and the ACC.
Each site has rosters, stats, schedules, news and arena info. 2)
NESN's site has a similar feel, with the focus clearly on the
Bruins and Red Sox. The main page (http://www.nesn.com) leads
with that night's programming highlights, including a preview of
"Front Row," NESN's nightly magazine show. 3) Miami's all-
sports WQAM-AM appears to be a leader among sports talk stations
on the Web. Surfers with strong enough PCs and audio software
can tune in to http://wqam.com to hear live broadcasts. 4) For
those who like their talk radio with an edge, see
http://www.xtrasports.com/ HTML/ gloss.html for Jim Rome's
glossary of terms. The former ESPN2 talker -- now on L.A.'s XTRA
-- is, at the very least, unique. 5) On the lighter side, it
may not be suitable as a screen saver, but
http://www.ppmm.com/jrp/sportop.htm is devoted to "The Sports
Writers on TV" -- the cigar-fueled foursome on SportsChannel
Chicago (THE DAILY).
