Seahawks Owner Ken Behring said late last week he wants to
"work something out" with the NFL, similar to the recent deal
that will bring football back to Cleveland, according to the L.A.
TIMES. T.J. Simers reports that Behring notes the NFL has
"worked out deals before. Why not put the same effort in here as
what was put in Cleveland?" (L.A. TIMES, 2/23). In Tacoma, John
Clayton reports that "NFL sources indicate the league will not
follow a Cleveland-like course in the Seattle situation if
Behring expects it to help him break his Kingdome lease."
However, Clayton adds, "If the courts rule in Behring's favor,
such a solution might be considered." Meanwhile, Microsoft Co-
Founder Paul Allen confirmed his interest in the club, but
Blazers GM Bob Whitsitt, who represents Allen's sports interests,
said Allen and Behring have not met. Whitsitt said there "are a
lot of politicians trying to set up meetings," but none are
planned. Whitsitt added that Allen would want help from the
community if he were to buy the club. Whitsitt: "I guess we'll
all have to step up together to do what we have to do to make it
stay here. But Paul is not going to be the (one) guy to save
football or whatever" (NEWS-TRIBUNE, 2/25).
