ENOUGH OF SUN AND FUN: NFL LOOKS NORTH FOR SUPER BOWL XXXVI

NFL Dir of Special Events Jim Steeg told the Minneapolis
STAR TRIBUNE that the best chance for that city to host the Super
Bowl again will be in 2002, when the NFL plans to return to a
northern city. Steeg: "If San Francisco decides to pass up the
1999 Super Bowl, we will likely go to Atlanta, Miami, Tampa or
back to Phoenix." Along with Minnesota, Steeg said Detroit,
Seattle and Chicago (if they get a new dome) will be competing
for 2002 (Sid Hartman, Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/30).
THE SYSTEM WORKS: NFL President Neil Austrian said the
competitiveness of this year's game should put to rest the talk
of seeding playoff teams by record, not by conference standing
(Leonard Shapiro, WASHINGTON POST, 1/30).
