A TALE OF TWO CITIES: SEATTLE AND PHILLY STADIUM NEWS

     Seattle baseball stadium board members narrowed to three the
list of architects for the job of designing a new ballpark for
the Mariners.  The three are Ellerbe Becket of Kansas City, HOK
Sports Facilities of Kansas City and NBBJ of Seattle.  A final
selection is due Monday (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 1/24).  King County
Councilmember Peter von Reichbauer said if the Mariners lose Ken
Griffey, Jr., to free agency, the new baseball stadium scheduled
for 1999 may be in jeopardy.  Von Reichbauer: "If he's not there,
the stadium may not be there" (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 1/24).
     PHILS LUV THE GUV?  Phillies President Bill Giles said that
PA Gov. Tom Ridge has "assured him" that whatever the state will
do to keep the Pirates, they will do for the Phillies (Paul
Hagen, PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/24)
