FOYT ASSUMES DRIVER'S SEAT IN ANTITRUST SUIT AGAINST CART

A.J. Foyt, a four-time Indy 500 winner who wants to
participate in events staged by the new Indy Racing League, is
suing CART in a federal antitrust action. Foyt's suit accuses
CART, operators of the IndyCar circuit, of "trying to monopolize
Indy car racing, of pressuring companies to stay away from
sponsoring his IRL cars and of costing his A.J. Foyt Enterprises,
Inc., of at least $5 million." CART issued a statement calling
the suit "baseless and without merit." A scheduling conference
for attorneys from both sides is set for April 22 in Houston --
just five weeks before CART and IRL are set to go head-to-head
with the Indy 500 and CART's new U.S. 500 (AP/ARIZONA DAILY STAR,
1/11).
