  • CAMPUS NOTES: BIG 12 STILL A CONFERENCE WITHOUT A HOME

Dallas and Kansas City have emerged as finalists to be home
to the HQs for the new Big 12. A decision is not expected for
another month or two. Univ/Colorado Chancellor Roderic Park:
"Kansas City is the strongest proposal in terms of cash. Dallas
is the strongest in terms of corporate sponsorships. We are
looking for a meeting of those two strengths" (DALLAS MORNING
NEWS, 12/3).... Collegiate Licensing Co. has added Mississippi
State as the newest member (CLC)....The U.S. Education Department
has published rules requiring colleges to issue annual reports on
how much they spend on men's and women's athletics. The reports
"could make it easier" for women's sports advocates to make the
case for discrimination (N.Y. TIMES, 12/2).... There is "minimal
interest" in the Citrus Bowl from Ohio State fans, still
"disappointed" over a missed trip to the Rose Bowl. OSU has
asked for the minimum of 12,000 Citrus tickets, while Tennessee
has already received 18,500 and is expected to ask for more
    (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 12/5).
CORRECTION: Friday's round-up of the preseason basketball
Top 25 correctly listed Nike as UMass' official shoe, but should
have named Champion as uniform outfitter.
