FAN CLUB LAWSUIT RILES NEW STADIUM PROPONENTS IN TIGERTOWN

     A lawsuit in opposing state funding of a new Tiger Stadium
by the Tiger Stadium Fan Club could delay construction for a
year, said James Tervo, Detroit's point man for economic
development.  In an interview with the DETROIT NEWS, Tervo said,
"What's really frustrating to me is that the old Tiger Stadium
Fan Club has nothing to win.  The old Tiger Stadium is not going
to be rehabbed."  In response to arguments a new facility will
not have economic impact, Tervo said, "If you go to Cleveland or
Baltimore you understand that if you build a stadium so it blends
into the city with limited parking, it is a tremendous boost to
the community" (Lynn Waldsmith, DETROIT NEWS, 12/20).
