STADIUM NOTES

San Francisco's mayoral election is today between Frank
Jordan and Former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. The next mayor
may have to face some stadium politics shortly, as the Giants
"are seriously pondering the March ballot for yet another bid for
a new baseball-only stadium." The 49ers have also asked for a
new facility (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/11). ....Up to six feet of cold
water flooded the construction site of the new CoreStates Center,
creating "what looked like a moat around the $210 million sports
and entertainment center." The leak went "undetected" for 12
hours and dumped close to 18 inches of water on the Center's
unfinished floor. The flooding caused thousands of dollars of
damage, but was not expected to delay construction (PHILADELPHIA
INQUIRER, 12/12)...Sunday's ATLANTA CONSTITUTION featured a full
page plan of a proposed new 21,500-seat arena for the Hawks
(ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 12/10).
