BEARS ASK MAYOR DALEY FOR A TEMPORARY HOME

The Bears "demanded" yesterday that Chicago Mayor Richard
Daley line up a temporary home for the team during the '97
season, according to the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. The team argues the
mayor's Soldier Field renovation proposal would cost the Bears an
entire season. Bears VP Ted Philips: "We're told by our stadium
experts that it will cost us probably a season. We need a
contingency plan if we miss the 1997 season." The mayor's
stadium advisor, Edward Bedore, said there is no need for a fill-
in: "We have no (alternative) place for them to play at this
particular time because we don't believe there's a need to do
that. Our plan works" (Fran Spielman, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 11/29).
