STADIUM NOTES

     The FleetCenter is a finalist to be a '99 NCAA basketball
tournament host.  The new arena seems more likely to host first
and second round games before it qualifies as an East Regional
host (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/18)....Seahawks Owner Ken Behring and
President David Behring met with NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue
for two hours on Monday to discuss the team's "troubled stadium
situation."  Recent legislation in WA "all but killed" their hope
of securing $150M in Kingdome improvements.  Earlier this year,
Behring  visited potential stadium sites in L.A. (Tacoma NEWS
TRIBUNE, 10/17)....Groundbreaking for the new 20,000-seat MCI
Center in DC takes place today (MCI Center)....Oakland and
Alameda County officials voted to shift some control of the
Oakland Coliseum from its independent board, but the City Council
voted to "restore some power" to the Coliseum board by making its
president a member of the "powerful joint powers authority" (SAN
JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 10/18)....A final recommendation for
controlling methane gas at the proposed site for the Brewers new
stadium is expected within six weeks and could double the current
$2 million cost estimate (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 10/18).
