I FEEL YOUR PAYNE: ACOG EXEC DIR ANTICIPATES STAFF CUTBACKS

ACOG CEO Billy Payne has said he plans to "reduce" the
number of volunteers and staff needed to stage the Games, as he
and other Atlanta officials look for ways to meet their $1.58B
budget, according to the WASHINGTON POST. After reviewing the
staffing at test events, Payne said ACOG may have overestimated
the number of volunteers and staff needed for the Games. Payne:
"We are going with a trim and lean approach." ACOG has 2,000
staff and volunteers, of which 1,226 are full-time paid
employees. After originally projecting the need for a 50% staff
increase in the six months leading to the Games, Payne said he
now anticipates hiring fewer staffers. ACOG had also projected
needing 40,000 volunteers, but that number is also expected to be
cut (Knight & Brennan, WASHINGTON POST, 10/7).
