WARRIORS ALMOST CERTAIN TO STAY IN OAKLAND

A deal to keep the Golden State Warriors in Oakland appears
"nearly certain, but a behind-the-scenes political brawl may
ruffle negotiations at the last minute," according to Robert
Salladay of the OAKLAND TRIBUNE. Sources tell the TRIBUNE that
with negotiations with San Francisco or San Jose "nearly
lifeless," Warriors and Coliseum officials will meet next week to
review a "terms letter" to keep the team in Oakland. The
Coliseum's plan calls for a privately financed, $140M arena north
of the stadium and likely using the old arena site for parking.
The new arena would have 21,000 seats and 104 luxury boxes
(OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 9/19).
