ceremony for the U.S. Open on Wednesday. Billie Jean King,
Virginia Wade, and the Jensen Brothers will conduct a tennis
clinic afterward (Chase Manhattan)....Oakley is using the U.S.
Open to push its new line of "Full Metal Jacket" sunglasses.
Oakley's Chris Bowers: "The glasses have only been out for two
months and we are using the Open to market them to tennis

with Ward Rhobe Management Corporation to manage all fashion
apparel for on-air talent. Ward Rhobe is located in North
Hollywood and handled fashion for CBS Sports at the '94
Lillehammer Games (CBS Sports)....Maxfli will introduce three new
items to their headwear line at the Int'l PGA Show in Las Vegas
this fall -- a white safari hat, a line of open-weave straw hats
for women, and a new line of fitted caps (Maxfli)....The
marketing and entertainment aspect of pro sports is profiled in a
front-page piece by William Gildea of the WASHINGTON POST.
Gildea: "Spectating -- simply watching a contest, treat it as a
casual diversion -- has become passe as team marketing experts,
believing that passivity among fans could lead to boredom,
confect ways to make patrons 'interactive' with their
