GOVERNOR'S OFFICE WAFFLES ON SITE FOR BOSTON MEGAPLEX

     MA Lt. Gov. Paul Cellucci said yesterday the Weld
administration wants to reexamine the possibility of building a
megaplex at the CrossTown site instead of in South Boston.
Richard Kindleberger reports in this morning's BOSTON GLOBE that
Cellucci said the change of heart is a "recognition on our part
that neither the private investment necessary in South Boston nor
the political support seems to be there."  The Patriots, who
remain as the only private corporation committed to building the
convention-center/stadium project, have said they will support
the project regardless of where it is built.  However, Red Sox
Exec VP John Buckley said yesterday that team "might go its own
way" and build a replacement Fenway Park in South Boston (BOSTON
GLOBE, 8/15).
