GTE will join Walt Disney Co. and three regional phone companies in a $500M venture to provide interactive entertainment and programs. GTE will contribute $100M as an equal partner. Disney is currently developing the programming -- including video on demand, home shopping and video games -- for the system. The local bells, BellSouth, Ameritech and Southwestern Bell, are updating their networks to bring the project to homes (REUTERS/DAILY VARIETY, 8/11).
