GET 'EM WHILE YOU CAN; PGA, RYDER CUP MERCHANDISE HOT ITEMS

     PGA of America-licensed manufacturers producing PGA
Championship- and Ryder Cup-logoed merchandise report that sales
through March "have met or exceeded 50% of their yearly
projections."  The PGA has agreements with 22 companies to
provided licensed, logoed merchandise for the PGA Championship
and the Ryder Cup.  PGA Manger of Event Merchandising Susan
Hickman: "A number of golf pros who placed orders in January
already are reordering."  Slazenger Golf USA President Dave
Branon predicts the merchandise sales to hit $2.5 to $3M (GOLF
SHOP OPERATIONS, 7/95 issue).
     TAKEOVER TALK:  Ashworth, Inc., has dropped its women's and
children's lines, which "are believed to have made up
approximately 5-6%" of company revenues, or "about $4 million."
Despite company denials, "word on Wall Street is that Ashworth
remains willing to entertain sale or acquisition offers" (GOLF
SHOP OPERATIONS, 7/95 issue).
