         GARY MCKENNA was hired by MacGregor Golf as VP for Sales for
    the Americas.  He was formerly Dir of Sales for Golf Products at
    Spalding Sports Worldwide....Maruman has hired BRAD SMITH, ROB
    BARCIK, and ROGER BOYD as Sales Reps....MICHAEL PAI was hired by
    Maxfli Golf as Product Manager for Golf Balls....Awsome Golf
    hired BOB MCKELVEY as VP/Sales and Operations (GOLF WORLD, 7/14
    issue)....Ex-NFL quarterback OLIVER LUCK is the new President of
    the World League of American Football, succeeding MARC LORY, who
    resigned last week after one-year (USA TODAY, 7/14).

         Prime Sports West has that WELDON DONALDSON, former General
    Sales Manager for KFMB-TV has been retained as a San Diego Sales
    Consultant, PATRICK MCCLENAHAN will add the newly created
    position of Asst GM to his current VP of Programming & Production
    (Prime)....The IHL L.A. Ice Dogs have named KENT RUSSELL VP of
    Sales and Marketing (Ice Dogs)....KURT KRETZSCHMAR has been
    promoted to Associate Dir of Affiliate Relations for the One-On-
    One Sports Radio Network.  He was formerly Senior Producer (One-
    On-One).

  • NAMES IN THE NEWS

         Wimbledon Champion STEFFI GRAF along with her father and
    personal financial manager PETER GRAF are being investigated by
    German tax authorities.  On May 23, tax investigators collected
    documents from the Graf family home in Bruhl and these documents
    are being audited (Mult., 7/13).  CBS' Dan Rather reported that
    Graf "is suspected of tax evasion along with her father" ("CBS
    Evening News," 7/12)....GREG NORMAN was reportedly paid $350,000
    plus $50,000 in jet fuel to play in the Murphy's Irish Open in
    Kilkenny last week.  Such fees are supposedly forbidden on the
    European Tour, but sponsors "are given a number of ways to get
    around the rules."  Norman:  "You have to pay for professional
    talent."  COLIN MONTGOMERIE called it "Outrageous!" ("Inside
    Golf," SI, 7/17 issue)....Among the speakers at the "Breaking
    Through as a Sports Agent" seminar (July 22-23 at Harrah's Las
    Vegas) will be agent DENNIS GILBERT, attorney ROBERT SHAPIRO, and
    JERRY TARKANIAN  (Allan Malamud, L.A. TIMES, 7/13).

         Albany River Rats President DOUG BURCH was named the
    recipient of the AHL's Hendy Award given to the executive making
    an outstanding contribution to the league (AHL).... JOE CROSBY
    and NORRIES WILSON are spending the first three weeks of the
    Jaguars' inaugural training camp with the team and coaches
    through the NFL's Minority Coaching Fellowship Program
    (Jaguars)....BARBARA WILKERSON was named NABF Promoter of the
    Year (WASHINGTON TIMES, 7/14)....CRAIG T. NELSON will participate
    at Sonoma's Sears Point Raceway in the Int'l Motor Sports
    Association's World Sports Car event Sunday (S.F. CHRONICLE,
    7/14)....PETE SAMPRAS was on the "Late Show with David Letterman"
    last night.  Letterman, who was wearing a pair of Adidas sneakers
    when Sampras came out on stage, asked him what kind of shoes he
    was wearing.  Sampras:  "I have some Cole-Haan's."  Letterman:
    "Oh, I'm going to smoke your ass."  Sampras:  "You're wearing
    Adidas.  You need to start wearing some Nike's."  Letterman:
    "Well, you have your deal, I have my deal."  The two then went
    out into the street and played tennis ("Late Show," CBS, 7/13).
