SURPRISE BID SUBMITTED FOR LABATT BROADCAST PROPERTIES
Published July 10, 1995
Baton Broadcasting has made "an unexpected bid" for the broadcast assets of John Labatt Ltd., while the front-runner, Alliance Communications, "failed to meet" last week's deadline and "is betting that the deadline is fluid." Interbrew S.A., "owner-in-waiting of Labatt," received another bid from either a group led by Astral Communications or WIC Western Int'l Communications Ltd. CanWest Global Communications had no comment on whether it submitted a bid (Enchin/Strauss, Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 7/8).
