Michael Knisley details the challenges facing newly elected USOC Exec Dir Dick Schultz in the current SPORTING NEWS. Knisley writes, "[The USOC] at least found someone with experience at navigating the intricate channels of amateur sports bureaucracy." Among the challenges: Coalition-building with the national governing bodies, which "often are at odds with the USOC over athlete eligibility and funding"; 2) increase USOC's influence internationally; and, 3) address the "nagging problem" of the USOC's relationship with the NCAA (THE SPORTING NEWS, 7/3 issue).
