AVALANCHE GAINING SPEED AS NAME OF DENVER'S NHL TEAM?

Sources close to Denver's new NHL team say that of the eight
possible names, Avalanche and Black Bears are the favorites of
management, with Cougars an "outside possibility." A fan
feedback forum (in person, by fax, phone or mail) will be open
until July 5. The forum is not a vote. One source said that
since "Avalanche" has the best logo and merchandising
opportunities, it "has the best chance." In addition, the team
unveiled its ticket prices Friday, using the Nugget's ticket plan
as a model. The new plan emphasizes packaging, partnerships and
monthly payment options. Also, once the NBA and NHL schedules
are released, the Nuggets and the NHL team will design a "combo"
package by which fans may purchase tickets to seven games for
each team (Curtis Eichelberger, ROCKY MOUNTIAN NEWS, 6/24).
