WILSON TO JOIN ANOTHER RACQUET SPORT: PLATFORM TENNIS
Published June 2, 1995
Wilson Sporting Goods Co. has announced they will begin to manufacture platform tennis racquets. Platform tennis is played on a court one fourth the size of a tennis court and "enclosed to shield players from the elements." Marcraft of Passasic, NJ, is currently the only major firm producing paddles, but beginning in September, Wilson will introduce their own line, along with other accessories such as bags and gloves. John Embree, Wilson Racquet Business Dir, said about 30,000 to 40,000 paddles are sold each year, and that Wilson believes "the company can sell 10,000 to 15,000 of that total" (George Lazarus, CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/2).
