         Tribune Co. has named its President & COO JOHN MADIGAN to be
    the company's new CEO.  The move was "widely expected."  Madigan
    declined to comment immediately on his plans for the company,
    which owns the Cubs (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/3). ....ANNE MCCOY
    was named assistant AD for Business and Finance at St. Louis
    Univ.....PAUL BOGEN was named full-time Commissioner of the
    Northeast 10 Conference (Sports Ticker). ...STEVE CARPOWICH,
    formerly of San Deigo p.r. firm, Brice & Associates, has become
    the Dir of Advertising for the CFL San Antonio Texans (SAN DIEGO
    DAILY TRANSCRIPT, 5/2)....MARK HEBSCHER will be the new radio
    voice for the CFL Argonauts (TORONTO STAR, 5/3)....The USBL
    Jersey Turnpikes named STEVE MATARANTE Assistant GM for Marketing

          Panthers Owner JERRY RICHARDSON has officially stepped down
    as Chair of Flagstar Companies, operator of Denny's restaurants,
    in order to spend more time on his football team (ATLANTA
    CONSTITUTION, 5/3)....The '95 MLB All-Star Game host committee
    was announced Monday.  Among the 33 members chosen:  Dallas Mayor
    STEVE BARTLETT, Arlington Mayor RICHARD GREENE, Rangers President
    TOM SCHIEFFER, Fort Worth Mayor KAY GRANGER, Dallas County judge
    LEE JACKSON, and Tarrant County Judge TOM VANDERGRIFF (DALLAS
    MORNING NEWS, 5/2)....Former Kings coach BARRY MELROSE will serve
    as an analyst for ESPN and ESPN2 for the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
    (ESPN)....NBC Sports' DICK ENBERG and BOB HAMMEL, Sports Editor
    of THE HERALD-TIMES in Bloomington, Ind. were announced yesterday
    as the winners of the Curt Gowdy Award for broadcast and print
    coverage of basketball (N.Y. TIMES, 5/3)....PGA golfer PAUL
    AZINGER was on "CBS This Morning" to discuss his new book and his
    fight with cancer (CBS, 5/3)....The N.Y. DAILY NEWS reported
    today that LAWRENCE TAYLOR is thinking about returning to the
    NFL, possibly as a Patriot (5/3)....The N.Y. TIMES estimates that
    Magic Owner RICH DEVOS has donated $18.5M to his charitable
    foundation (N.Y. TIMES, 4/30).... Red Sox DH JOSE CANSECO is the
    "Inside Interview" in the latest edition of INSIDE SPORTS.
    Canseco, who has established his own sports agency: "You hear
    horror stories every day: agents taking clients away from
    agencies, CPAs stealing money from corporations.  Things like
    that can happen."  Canseco, on whether he believes that Latin
    players have a hard time getting endorsements: "It depends a lot
    on what a company needs, what it's looking for.  There still is a
    stereotype, a double standard that exists.  We're not over that
    yet" (INSIDE SPORTS, 6/95 issue)....Former MLB pitcher SAM
    MCDOWELL is profiled in the latest PITTSBURGH magazine.
    McDowell, a "licensed addiction counselor," has a "holistic
    approach to athlete problem-solving."  His services have been
    used by the Blue Jays (PITTSBURGH, 5/95 issue).....
